Welcome to Finn Arne Jørgensen’s web site. I am a historian living in Trondheim, Norway. I earned my PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies of Culture (specializing in the History of Business, Technology, and the Environment) at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (Trondheim, Norway) in 2007. My research interests center on the history of technology, consumption, and the environment in the twentieth century (US and Europe), as well as digital history.

My postdoctoral research project is called “Suburbanizing the Wilderness: The Norwegian Hytte 1850-2000″ and examines the creation of the Norwegian leisure cabin culture.

My PhD dissertation (2007) examined the history of beverage container recycling in Norway, Sweden, and the US. I am currently preparing a book manuscript based on the dissertation, to be completed in 2009.

The contradictory and many-faceted nature of the modern consumer is a recurring theme in much of my research. I have published articles on consumption and have on several occasions commented on the topic in Norwegian newspapers, radio, and TV.
